Christmas at Measham

Once again in December 2011, St. Laurence's became a focal point for one of Measham's main community events. The evening began with Carol singing on the Church carpark and lawn, led by Team Rector Vivien Elphick and featuring the new community choir. Proceedings continued as Derek Mullen, Head of Measham CofE Primary School, officially opened the event ,with one of his pupils, winner of the official Christmas at Measham poster competition pulling the lever to turn on the lights on the church tower and down the length of the High St. Estimates suggest that as many as 1000 villagers attended the event which continued with a Treasure Hunt for the children, a raffle organised by the Parish Council to raise funds towards next year's switch-on. The shops and cafes remained open and the church hall hosted some children's activities and served tea and coffee (with minced pies, of course).

Everybody enjoyed the occasion which was considered a great success.
