Christmas 2012

Christmas at Saint Laurence

What a blessing!

From the Community Carol singing at 'Christmas@Measham' and the resultant rush for warm drinks in the Hall before and afterwards, through the personal stories at the quieter 'Coffee and Carols' morning, the overriding fun of the All-Age Nativity, the joy of the traditional Carol Service and the excitement at the Christingle service, to the more solemn celebration of Holy Communion on Christmas Eve, there was something for everyone this year at Saint Laurence.

Christmas can be a very busy time for everyone, and, in the case of a church, particularly for the clergy, so it was good to see so many taking a little time out in the run up to 'the Big Day'.

(Posada figures) Joseph and Mary, this year with a donkey, again visited many homes in the village during advent and spent many an evening looking out onto the cold or damp streets, before returning to church at the Christingle Service. Here, at least 100 children (and some grown-ups) received a Christingle, prepared by a small team of helpers on Christmas Eve morning.

Coffee and Carols (with mince pies and cake) was a new venture this year and it was pleasing (and to some extent a relief) that so many attended on a very wet morning just over a week before Christmas. Our organist had been asked to play some carols for perhaps three quarters of an hour, but ended up playing for twice as long and was accompanied at the end by an impromptu choir.

The church windows all look splendid (as always). See the selection in the photo gallery to see for yourself.

And with Christmas now almost complete, we look forward to the Children's New Year Party in January. Many of the Woodfield Team will also be undertaking to 'read the Bible in a year' in 2013, so there should be many further blessings to come.
