Harvest News

Harvest celebrations at St. Laurence's got off to a great start with a well-attended Harvest Supper on Saturday, 22nd September as part of our Jesus 2012 series of events.

We were joined for the occasion by the majority of the team from Lincoln who circulated among the guests as we got to know each other at the beginning of the week of activities.

Together we enjoyed an excellent meal, prepared by a team of volunteers, with wine, soft drinks and desserts brought by the guests. The meal was interspersed by in-house entertainment, guitars and songs to the harvest theme followed by sketches and drama led by our own clergy.

A special treat was in store for the many parents who came to church on Friday, 28th as Measham CofE School held their own Harvest Festival. Each class took turns to sing, recite poetry or pray and Headteacher, Mr. Mullen, gave an interesting and inspiring talk based on different fruits.

Our own Harvest Festival took place on the following Sunday and we were joined on this occasion by the Measham School Choir, many of their parents and grandparents as well as members of the Lincoln Team. The choir sang beautifully, some harvest hymns and songs were sung and Canon Ian Silk from Lincoln led the talk on the Parable of the Sower with some illustrative drama involving some of the children.

Harvest gifts were gathered at both Harvest Services and these have been passed to the Marlene Reid Centre in Coalville who will ensure that they reach needy families in the North-West Leicestershire area.
