Village Flower Festival a great success

Display by Measham C of E SchoolThe recent Measham Community Flower Festival was a great success, drawing in visitors from  all over the area and from as far afield as Cornwall.

The Festival was a real treat for the senses, the obvious beauty of the flowers and their scent, but also the taste buds were tickled by the fruit and cakes included in some displays. There were even exhibits which could be picked up, especially at the Measham Museum stand.

The young people of the village were very well represented, with both primary schools offering displays, including recent work by some of the pupils. The Youth Club spent a long time preparing and setting up their display which creatively showed many of the activities on offer at the club. Many of the members themselves were involved in setting up their display. There was also a display from the Boys and Girls Brigade which meets at the village Baptist Church and one by the Rainbows, Brownies and Guides, who meet in Saint Laurence Church Hall.

Local services with displays included the Parish Council and Measham Museum, the Measham Messenger, 4 village churches, the Townswomen's Guild, Slimmers World and the Medical Unit. This last display proved very interesting for older village residents, as it took a 'then and now' theme with photos and news of the practice from many years ago through to the modern day, much-enlarged facility of today.

There were also features from local traders Gillys Pantry and W. Taylor's, the village butcher.

For Saint Laurence's there was an interesting display in the church porch, featuring 'life's events' of baptisms, weddings and funerals.  Our bellringers also had a window display, although, unfortunately they were unable to display our set of handbells on this occasion.
